About the Griffin Family Foundation
The Griffin Family Foundation, Inc. based in Mexico, Missouri is a charitable foundation funded primarily by the efforts of Dr. Fred Griffin.
Dr. Griffin did not come from a wealthy family. When he was two years old, a tornado hit the family farm house killing his entire family. Dr. Griffin was found a half mile away lying in a field and was then raised in Audrain County by his aunt and uncle.
Dr. Griffin worked sixty hour weeks, 52 weeks a year tending to the medical needs of the residents of Audrain and Montgomery Counties. When Dr. Griffin died, he left his estate to his only daughter, Anna Margaret Griffin. Miss Griffin was a teacher in Mexico Public Schools for many years. She taught Home Economics to include cooking, sewing, cleaning, household maintenance, and managing a household budget, valuable lessons for any individual.
Miss Griffin preserved her father’s legacy by founding the Griffin Family Foundation, Inc. to provide funding for college scholarships and grants for religious, charitable, scientific and literary purposes for Audrain and Montgomery counties. Since its inception in 1998, the Foundation has awarded grants and scholarships totaling over $1.4 million. The Griffin Family Foundation provides these scholarships and grants solely to the residents of Audrain and Montgomery counties.
